The next National Executive
meeting of the National Union of Journalists (India) will
be held in Haridwar, Uttarakhand on August 9-11, 2008. The
National Executive will discuss on the preparation for the
Wage Board memorandum, atrocities on journalists in Indian
subcontinent, follow-up of the decisions of the last meeting.

Dear friend,
In the meeting of the board of trustees of the Journalists
Welfare Foundation held at Bhopal on July 20, 2008 the issue
of the current group insurance scheme,in which nearly 900
members have enrolled themselves,came up for review.The current
coverage begining from anytime last year ends the ensuing
July 26th 2008. Therefore, till fresh enrollment begins,from
a date which will be notified after negotiations with the
general insurance companies with which we presently have an
agreement/or any private sector company - the options are
being explored no insurance coverage is available for the
present. I hope we shall be able to give you a date soon after
the N.E. committee meeting at Hardwar scheduled on August
9-10 and you would be informed to commence enrollment. Meanwhile,
negotiations are underway with private sector players also
who may offer us better terms. Please note that all those
who had enrolled themselves last year,shall also be required
to fill forms afresh. Pl assign the responsibility of keeping
list of members who wish to enroll themslves under the group
insurane scheme,started by NUJ(I) sponsored by Journalists
Welfare Fund and issue them each a receipt.
I am happy to inform you that on the line of the kind gesture
of the Haryana C.M. Shri Bhupendra Singh Huda who had announced
on June 22, a grant of Rs.10 lacs towards the corpus fund
of JWF, the Chief Minister of M.P. Shri.Shivraj Singh Chauhan
was kind enough to respond in similar manner to our request
and grant an identical amount when we met him on July 20 in
Bhopal.Efforts are underway to solicit more such grants from
other states,on the strength of your good wishes.

As informed earlier, the ensuing N.E. Committee meeting of
the NUJ(I) shall be held at Haridwar on August 9-10.The Chief
Minister of Uttarakhand Maj.Gen (Retd.) B.C.Khanduri shall
inaugurate the meeting at Vishwa Kalyan Sadhayatan, Daksh
Road in Kankhal, Haridwar at 11 A.M.
The following shall be the agenda of the meeting.
1.Confirmation of the proceeding of the last N.E. meeting
held at Hyderabad on 5th March evening.
2.Reports of progress regarding tasks assigned to NUJ(I)
members (vice presidents, secretaries and executive members,
media incharge) in the meeting of the seniors held in New
Delhi on March 25-26.These were circulated by me to you soon
after the meeting.
3.Report on the progress made since Hyderabad biennial in
March in respect of spread of the organisation all over the
country.
4.Report in regard to NUJ(I)’s presentation before the
Wage board over interim relief and the view of the board.
5.Outcome of the last meeting of the Journalists Welfare
Fund held at Bhopal on July 20 and position of fund, and review
of the insurance cover and new dimention of future activities.
6.Details of the LIC policy its merits etc. in addition of
the existing group insurance policy, offered by the National
Insurance Co.
7.Dr.N.K.Trikha incharge international affairs, to report
on IFJ activities in India and NUJ(I) participation.
8.Demand for a convergence bill.
9.Seminar on contract system in the media.
10.Progress in regard to NUJ(I) School of Journalism and
Mass Communication.
11. Inkworld.
